Oldest woman in space arrives at ISS

(NBC NEWS) -- Astronaut Peggy Whitson added to her record-breaking career by becoming the oldest woman in space.

Whitson, 56, arrived overnight at the International Space Station, joined by a French and Russian astronaut. They’re joining an American and two Russians at the orbiting space lab.

Whitson will turn 57 in February.

The six-month mission should push her beyond 534 days in space, the U.S. record set in September by Jeffrey Williams, 58.
