COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's attorney general is soliciting calls from conservative groups that believe they were wrongfully targeted by the Internal Revenue Service.

Attorney General Alan Wilson on Monday lambasted the IRS over its systematic scrutiny of conservative groups during the 2010 and 2012 elections.

He says the IRS' admitted targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status deserves the highest level of scrutiny.

The Republican attorney general sent out an email saying he wants to hear from hassled groups in South Carolina. He says he wants to ensure their cases are considered in the federal investigation.

The IRS apologized last week for the tax agency's heightened scrutiny of tea party affiliates and other conservative with certain words or phrases in their materials.
