Butterfield, Foxx elected to Congress leadership

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Two members of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina have won significant caucus leadership positions in Congress for the new session beginning in January.
 
Rep. Virginia Foxx of Banner Elk was elected Wednesday by her fellow Republican members as secretary of the House GOP Conference.
 
Democratic Rep. G.K. Butterfield of Wilson was elected unanimously as first vice chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
 
Foxx won a fifth term representing the 5th Congressional District last week.
 
Butterfield has been second vice chairman of the black caucus for the past two years.  He began representing the 1st Congressional District in 2004.
