CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. – Following a Cabarrus County Commission meeting Monday evening, commissioner H. Jay White Sr. resigned.
White announced his resignation as commissioner effective immediately. According to a press release sent to NBC Charlotte, White reached the decision after his firm responded to a request for qualification to represent the Department of Human Services.
In his letter of resignation, White stated, “Hartsell & Williams, P.A. responded to a request for qualifications to serve and represent the Department of Human Services. If the County deems it appropriate to discuss this matter further with Hartsell & Williams, P.A., then it would not be appropriate to continue serving as a commissioner. Therefore, I am resigning my office as Commissioner in the event Hartsell & Williams, P.A. is asked to serve as legal counsel for the Department of Human Services.
“I have enjoyed the privilege to serve on this board throughout the years,” the letter continued. “The Cabarrus County staff and employees are truly exceptional, tireless and dedicated to our residents. I wish you, the board and the County continued success.”
White was elected to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners in November 2006 and re-elected in November 2010.
He served as chairman from December 2007 until November 2011 and vice chairman from December 2012 until the time of his resignation.
