CHARLOTTE, NC – The two candidates running to be Charlotte’s next mayor appeared before members of the Charlotte Chamber’s metro chapter uptown Wednesday. It’s one of two public forums where Democrat Patrick Cannon and Republican Edwin Peacock were scheduled to appear Wednesday.
“It’s important from my perspective for the general public to understand there is a difference. They need to be informed about things they may not know are going on,” said Cannon.
“This is where you're going to see a difference between Patrick's approach and mine,” said Peacock.
Despite efforts to draw distinctions, the men’s differences were, at times, nuanced. Peacock and Cannon discussed economic development, taxes, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and job growth. The most prominent points of disagreement were Charlotte’s streetcar project and a recently approved property tax increase. Cannon supported both measures, while Peacock disagreed.
Wednesday evening the candidates were scheduled to appear at a public forum at UNC Charlotte’s Center City building, sponsored NBC Charlotte.
