COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has been selected as the keynote speaker for an annual South Carolina Republican Party fundraiser.
Party officials announced this week that Cruz would be featured at this year's Silver Elephant dinner on May 3.
Organizers say this year's event will include a tribute to former Sen. Jim DeMint. The South Carolina Republican stepped down earlier this year to head up the Heritage Foundation.
The Silver Elephant dinner has become a showcase for notable Republicans from around the country. In the past two years, speakers have included Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Pennsylvania senator and GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum.
