LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- Cal Cunningham is poised to become the first Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in North Carolina to run a television commercial, three weeks before the primary.
Cunningham's campaign unveiled on Monday a biographical ad. Campaign manager Rick Fromberg said the ad will begin airing on Tuesday in multiple media markets but declined to say where or the cost to run it.
Cunningham narrates how he's a former state senator who volunteered for the Army reserve after 9-11 and served in Iraq. The Lexington attorney says he now wants to fight a "different kind of war" to oppose unfair trade practices and tax breaks that send jobs overseas.
Cunningham is one of six Democrats seeking the party nomination on May 4 for the seat now held by Republican incumbent Richard Burr.
