GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A review of state spending indicates that spending on travel by Gov. Nikki Haley is down compared to the last years of Mark Sanford's administration.
The review of travel spending records by The Greenville News shows the Governor's Office spent about $286,000 on travel for the fiscal year ending in July. That's down about 40 percent from what Sanford spent in fiscal 2008-2009.
Travel spending by the Commerce Department was down 31 percent for the comparable years.
But the analysis showed that state agencies overall, including colleges and universities, increased travel spending by more than 7 percent. The travel tab for those groups last fiscal year was $66.5 million.
