WASHINGTON (AP) -- A North Carolina man convicted of punching the ambassador of Gabon at a demonstration at that country's embassy in Washington has been sentenced to 21 months in prison.
Forty-five-year-old Leon Obame of Raleigh was sentenced Wednesday in U.S District Court for the District of Columbia. He was convicted in October of assaulting a foreign official.
Prosecutors say the assault occurred on Dec. 9, 2011 at the embassy's temporary location on Connecticut Avenue N.W. Authorities say Obame punched Ambassador Michael Moussa-Adamo, knocking him to the ground.
