CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- According to a Bloomberg News report, President Obama is considering Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx for Secretary of Transportation.
The report said that the president is considering several other candidates.
Mayor Foxx has been a major supporter of both the light rail and streetcar projects in Charlotte.
Back in January, current transportation secretary Ray LaHood said he would be stepping down once a successor is chosen.
NBC Charlotte was the only station that attempted to ask Mayor Foxx about the Bloomberg News report after Wednesday afternoon's budget retreat. However, he gave the exact same answer to each question he was asked.
"I am happy being mayor of Charlotte. I'm having a good time with it. I'm looking forward to continuing the work we are doing," said Foxx, repeatedly, from inside an elevator in the Government Center.
Mecklenburg County Democrats said they did not have confirmation on the report, but believe Foxx would make an excellent addition to the President's cabinet.
