RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A newly sworn-in North Carolina Board of Transportation member raised more than $100,000 for Gov. Pat McCrory's 2012 campaign.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported (bit.ly/ZDZcgb) that real estate developer Mike Smith of Raleigh disclosed to the State Ethics Commission that he raised $106,000 for McCrory's 2012 gubernatorial bid.
The newspaper also said board member Mike Lee of Wilmington raised $500 for McCrory, who appoints all board members.
McCrory spent his unsuccessful 2008 campaign for governor criticizing the appearance that appointments to state boards and commissions are earned through fundraising efforts.
McCrory's office didn't immediately return a phone call or e-mail seeking comment.
Smith and Lee were among 10 appointments to the board sworn in Thursday.
