CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There’s a new push to keep North Carolina’s new voting rules from becoming law.

Attorney General Roy Cooper is leading the charge.

A petition posted on Change.org asks Governor McCrory to veto the bill. It passed during the last legislative session and would require voters to show an ID before getting a ballot.

It also shortens early voting and eliminates straight party voting.

The petition has thousands of signatures.
