RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. (AP) -- The vice chairman of the Rutherford County Airport Authority says it made up a story about the management of the airport changing just to see how fast the rumor would spread.
Keith Hunter told The Daily Courier of Forest City (http://bit.ly/15FyFGn ) that he hoped the rumor wouldn't spread after he told it to several people Friday. But he defended his action, saying he wanted to learn who he could trust.
The subject of the rumor was Authority Chairman Bob Howard. The board Tuesday approved him to continue at his job.
Howard says he doesn't condone spreading a rumor, but it makes him wonder who he can trust at the airport.
