ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Progressives in South Carolina have been meeting this weekend to talk about politics and map out strategy.

The SC Progressive Network is wrapping up its two-day fall retreat Sunday at the Penn Center on St. Helena Island.

Director Brett Bursey says registration for the weekend is triple what it usually is.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders is slated to address the gathering. The Independent from Vermont is expected to discuss the recent federal government shutdown and answer questions from the audience.
