RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina U.S. Senate candidate the Rev. Mark Harris has received the endorsement of Mike Huckabee in the Republican primary.
Harris announced Thursday the support of Huckabee, an ex-Arkansas governor, 2008 presidential hopeful and radio and TV show host. Huckabee is a favorite among Christian conservatives in the Republican Party.
A statement from Harris' campaign quoted Huckabee calling Harris "a true conservative" who will fight against the status quo in Washington.
Harris most recently has been pastor of First Baptist Church in Charlotte. Huckabee is a former minister. Both have been Baptist state convention presidents.
Huckabee's wife helped raise money for Harris' bid a couple of months ago.
At least six candidates are seeking the GOP nomination to take on Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan in the fall.
