UNION COUNTY, N.C. – There’s a new twist in the fight for control over Charlotte Douglas Airport.
The Union County Board of Commissioners says it supports the idea of a regional airport authority.
A bill to create such an authority is still making its way through the North Carolina general assembly, meeting some resistance.
The City of Charlotte is against it, and the state's deputy treasurer says uncertainty over airport debt could mire the measure in lawsuits.
The authority bill is now in the house where it could come up for a committee vote soon.
