Pittenger keeps congressional seat

UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- Republican Congressman Robert Pittenger will once again represent North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District.

According to the North Carolina Board of Elections, Pittenger beat out his opponent, Christan Cano, 58-to 42-percent.

During his victory speech at the Union County GOP Watch Party, Congressman Pittenger dedicated his win to the people of Union County.

“Thank you and God bless each one of you. We are here to pay tribute to you all. We love you. We are grateful you. No one works harder than the people of Union County,” Pittenger said.

Pittenger was first elected into congress in 2012; in 2014, he ran unopposed.

This election, many wondered if he could be re-elected after comments he made during the Charlotte protests, but, the voters have spoken.
