Perdue unveils more NC government reforms

04:25 PM EDT on Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Beverly Perdue says she would stop state Board of Transportation members from voting on most individual projects if she's elected governor.

The Democratic nominee on Wednesday announced several executive orders and directives she would issue on her first day in office.

The pledges are designed to help her grab the title of the reform candidate in her race with Republican Pat McCrory. Perdue has taken heat after two transportation board members who raised money for her campaign have been accused of conflict of interest involving road projects.

Perdue has said she wants road-building decisions made by division experts within DOT.

She also said Wednesday that each month she would hold at least four live town-hall meetings that could be televised and conduct performance reviews with at least one agency leader.
