Authorities arrested 33 Dakota Access Pipeline protesters Friday after protesters blocked traffic and trespassed on private property, the Morton County Sheriff's Office says.
Law enforcement officers responded to a report of about 100 protesters blocking traffic on Highway 6 south of St. Anthony around 10 a.m. Friday. Protesters and their vehicles blocked residence and an ambulance from moving along the state highway and law enforcement closed Highway 6 for traffic safety concerns, according to the Morton County Sheriff's Office.
Protesters slashed tires on six law enforcement vehicles, damaged construction equipment and swung a stake at an officer, the sheriff's office said. Twelve vehicles, both protesters and law enforcement, were towed from the scene.
Law enforcement advised protesters who were trespassing in private property to leave multiple times, warning if they didn't leave they would be arrested and their vehicles would be towed.
There, a protester started swinging a stake at an officer. The officer reportedly used pepper spray and the man was arrested.
