ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- The luxurious North Carolina estate established by the Vanderbilt family is exploring China as a possible market for wines it sells under Biltmore Estate's brand name.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/H9q3ex ) that one of the company's executives is on a U.S. government-sponsored trade mission to China running through Wednesday. The U.S. Agriculture Department trip puts business leaders in touch with dozens of Chinese producers, importers, buyers, distributors and investors.

Other companies attending range from cranberry marketers and vegetable growers to seafood distributors and pork producers.

Biltmore Estate's wine president Jerry Douglas says the company is putting out feelers about tapping into the Chinese market. He says decisions will come later on how the estate may explore selling or distributing wine in China.
