CHARLOTTE, N.C. --  Construction continues to move along at uptown Charlotte's newest 22-story high rise building.

The last piece of steel has been installed at the luxury SKYE Condominiums.  The high rise located at South Caldwell and East Third streets has been topped off, 310 feet from ground level.  A rooftop restaurant will complete the building.

Construction on the exterior of the building is well underway and the electrical and plumbing inside the building is taking place as well.

When completed the building will have 67 luxury condos, two penthouse suites, a 172-room Hyatt Place Hotel, ground floor retail space and a rooftop restaurant.

"We'll be at least half sold by out by the end of the year is my anticipation,” said Shane McDevitt, principal of The McDevitt Agency who is representing the developer on the project.  “Last year was a leveling off and it picked up near the end of the year and first quarter of the year and through today it has just gone crazy."

One-bedroom condos start in the low, $200,000 range.  A two-bedroom condo facing the city is priced at around 300,000, and penthouses are priced over $2 million.

The building is expected to be finished in the second quarter of 2012, and condo sales begin this week.

"No matter where you live in the building, when you come up here you'll be able to see everything from the skyline to Myers Park on one end, Elizabeth—you can even see the mountains in the distance," McDevitt added.
