ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) -- Crews were planning to resume searching for a 32-year-old man who disappeared off the Alabama coast in rough surf kicked up by tropical storm Debby.
Melvin Shepherd, director of beach safety for Orange Beach, said the South Carolina man was vacationing with his family when he went under the water around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
The Press-Register reports (http://bit.ly/NqnLYW) that the man's teenage son and another person went into the water after him. Authorities said the son was able to get back to shore safely. Shepherd said the other rescuer was carried about 150 yards to the west by the currents before he came ashore safely.
Shepherd said the search for the man would resume Monday morning. The man's name and hometown in South Carolina were not immediately released.
