DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Two Durham police officers have resigned after being accused of illegally restraining and assaulting a man earlier this year.
The Herald-Sun of Durham reported that Lt. Ryan A. Freeman and Officer Stacy L. Armstrong have left the department.
Freeman, Armstrong and Officer Erin V. Espinola were arrested in January after investigators say there was a scuffle at a club and the three off-duty officers went to a man's home to retrieve some property.
A judge in Durham dismissed the charges against Freeman and Armstrong last week because prosecutors were not ready to proceed with the case.
Durham officials say the officers left the police department March 21.
Espinola is on administrative leave with pay. His case has been postponed until August.
