Annual Sandburg recital held in Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- The annual Carl Sandburg solo guitar recital on the poet's birth date features artist Marina Alexandra. 

The Times-News of Hendersonville reports (http://bit.ly/Rqitnp ) the recital will be Sunday at First Congregational Church.  

The recital is co-hosted by the church, the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, and Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. 

Alexandra was born in the Ukraine. She received her master of music degree from the University of South Carolina. She founded the Guitar Muse Concert Series in Columbia in 2001 and released her first album, "Timeless Enchantment." 

Sandburg was born Jan. 6, 1868, in Galesburg, Ill. The folk singer and writer moved to Flat Rock in 1945 and died there in 1967. His home opened as a national historic site in 1974.
