ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Asheville Police say one of their officers shot and killed a suspect in a break-in after someone shot at him.
Police Chief William Anderson said the officer started chasing the suspect after being called to a burglary call at an apartment around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
Anderson says the officer ran after the man and as he approached him to arrest him, shots were fired. The officer fired back, killing the suspect.
The name of the man killed and the officer have not been released.
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
Anderson says no one else was hurt, and there are no other suspects in the incident.
