BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- A prosecutor says two Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies acted appropriately in the wounding of two men this summer.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/OA6q0U ) that prosecutor Duffie Stone and investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division investigated the shootings.
It happened June 29 when the driver of a car tried to run over deputies during a traffic stop at an apartment complex in Burton. The deputies fired, wounding the driver and a passenger in the car.
The driver, 40-year-old Johnnie Williams of Savannah, Ga., was charged with attempted murder, child endangerment and failing to stop for blue lights.
Officers Raymond Heroux and Kyle Strickland are back on the job after being on administrative leave during the investigation.
