WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities in Winston-Salem are keeping tabs on a black bear making the rounds through the city.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports the bear, weighing between 150 and 200 pounds, was seen late Thursday night in the backyard of a house on the city's southwestern side. Police said an officer saw the bear eating out of a bird feeder.
Police said the bear then climbed over a 6-foot fence and went into the woods behind the house. It was later seen in the area of a movie theater.
Authorities used the reverse 911 system to notify residents that the bear was seen near their homes.
Forsyth County Animal Control and the N.C. Wildlife Commission are aware of the bear, but decided not travel to where the bear was spotted.
