CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Charleston officials have a news conference scheduled on their investigation of a rash of suspicious fires in the city during the past decade.

Officials meet with reporters Monday afternoon.

More than 80 fires have been attributed to arson since 2000, most in houses largely where college students rent apartments.  Last year officials set up a toll free number and offered a $50,000 reward for information.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports a man was arrested over the weekend and charged with three arson counts. It is not clear if the arrest is connected to the larger string of arsons.

Earlier this year, a 14-year-old boy was charged with setting a fire that destroyed three homes, but investigators said that fire was not related to the others.
