CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a Charleston police officer has died after a motorcycle wreck over the weekend.

Department spokesman Charles Francis says 35-year-old Sergeant Tony Person Jr. was off-duty and was driving a motorcycle in North Charleston at around 1 a.m. Saturday when an SUV pulled out into his path.

Authorities say Person swerved but hit the SUV. He was also hit by a second vehicle.

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office says Person was pronounced dead at the scene. Charleston police say he had been an officer for 13 years.
