MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- The Charleston County Coroner's Office says a series of tests and drug scans could not determine why a mixed martial arts fighter died after a bout in Mount Pleasant.
Coroner Rae Wooten says tests on Tyrone Mims of Augusta, Ga., found no injury to organs and no sign of concussion. Wooten says his office tried to overturn every stone but could not find an explanation.
Mims collapsed after a bout Aug. 11 during "Fight Night at the Point VI." The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the 30-year-old father of five was not injured in the ring, but the referee stopped the fight in the second round because Mims was taking punches and kicks.
Mims then passed out in the locker room. He died at a hospital an hour later.
