PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Pilot Mountain State Park in Stokes County, about 100 miles north of Charlotte, is closed because of a flare up of a prescribed burn.
The flare up ignited areas outside the burn area according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation.
Airstar video from over the fire showed several fire crews working on areas of the fire. The crews are from the state parks system, the N.C. Forest Service and area volunteer fire departments.
The prescribed burn started Thursday, but the flare up occurred at about 3:30 p.m. that day, after 70 acres near the top of the mountain had successfully undergone a low-level prescribed burn. The fire is near a summit area trail and rock climbing area on the mountain’s western slope.
