FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Cumberland County authorities are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl earlier this week.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Tanna says investigators are not prepared to make a ruling in the death of the child.
An autopsy was performed in Chapel Hill on Tuesday but the State Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released a cause of death. Her name has not been released.
Detectives were called to a home late Monday afternoon after emergency medical personnel reported an unresponsive girl. She was taken to Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Tanna says detectives were called in case the death is ruled a homicide.
