FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A Fayetteville man has surrendered in the shooting death of a man on New Year's Day.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that 20-year-old Dion Laquan Johnson turned himself in to police Tuesday morning.

Johnson is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old William Earl Barnes III of Fayetteville.

Barnes was shot shortly after 2 a.m. on New Year's Day after a confrontation at a party.

Someone at the party drove Barnes to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he died about two hours later.

It was not clear if Johnson has an attorney.
