LAURINBURG, N.C. -- Several Fort Bragg soldiers were transported to the hospital following a crash in Scotland County.

The incident happened Friday morning near Laurinburg in Scotland County, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the van was involved in a crash with a logging truck on Highway 15 near Highway 144.

Eight soliders were transported. All of the patients, who are from the 82nd Airborne Division, were admitted to various hospitals, but five were taken back to Fort Bragg.

Heritage Funeral Home tells NBC Charlotte the soldiers were headed to Indian Trail to perform last military burial rights for an army colonel and WWII veteran. Following the crash, three members of the North Carolina National Guard from Charlotte were able to attend the funeral at the last minute to do it in their place.
