COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Governor Nikki Haley has signed a bill to help protect student athletes in South Carolina.
She signed a concussion bill that works to advance the identification and treatment of concussions in all sports, focusing on concussion awareness and prevention.
The bill requires specific guidelines for treating concussions, and they’ll apply to all high school athletic events. The guidelines will be based on state standards.
Parents will have to agree to the new rules for students to participate in sports, and any athletes who suffer a concussion will need doctor approval before returning to the team.
