GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins says he cannot make payments to his ex-wife or pay his daughter's school.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported (http://bit.ly/18HfLyO) that Perkins testified in court Monday that he has no assets other than his clothes, some furniture and about $2,000 in the bank.

Perkins says he cannot afford the $11,000 in monthly post-separation support owed his ex-wife, or the more than $30,000 owed to his daughter's private school.

Perkins works as a commercial real estate broker and says his business has dropped sharply in recent years.

Judge Tom Foster asked that the two sides return to court Friday.

Carole Perkins filed a motion for contempt last month saying her former husband owed more than $12,000 in post-separation support for May and June.
