GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities in Greenville County have accused a man of making almost 40 fake 911 calls dating back to July 2010.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said 43-year-old Ralph Roan Lawson called emergency personnel earlier this week to report his wife was unconscious. When deputies and emergency personnel reached his home, they determined there was no emergency.

Sheriff's deputies said while they were investigating the case shortly after midnight Tuesday, a second call made by the same person said there was a fire at a church in Anderson County and that people were trapped inside.

Investigators determined that Lawson had made 38 false emergency calls, 21 of them since Nov. 24, 2012.

Lawson was arrested Thursday and released on a $3,000 bond. It's not known if he has an attorney.
