FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina officials are investigating the deaths of 20 Canada geese found at a golf course in Fayetteville in June.
The Fayetteville Observer reported the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has joined the state wildlife commission in the investigation at Highland Country Club in June.
Capt. Brent Spivey with the wildlife commission says investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the geese were killed, rather than dying from environmental factors.
The staff at the golf course found the geese dead at two locations on June 2.
Club attorney Lonnie Player says the club notified the U.S. Agriculture Department. Player says the golf club does not think the deaths were caused by its operations.
