CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. -- More than 1,000 people woke up very early Easter morning to journey to Chimney Rock State Park for the 57th annual Easter Sunrise Service.

Kim Smith --who lives in Charlotte and is an assistant professor in the department of journalism and mass communication at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro -- took his camera along to capture the sights and sounds of Christians celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the beauty of the western North Carolina mountains.
