MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- A small plane crashed at the Mount Airy Municipal Airport on Thursday night.
Airport officials said a plane went down around 7:30 p.m.
A witness told authorities he heard a plane engine and a crashing sound.
The pilot was injured during the accident. Officials said the pilot was the only person on board during the accident.
Haz-mat crews worked to clean up fuel that had spilled from the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration will be out at the airport later today to investigate the crash.
