GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a 40-year-old Florence man was accidentally killed while hunting deer in Abbeville County.
The Index-Journal of Greenwood reports that Bradford Todd died after being shot in the back around 7 p.m. Friday in the Sumter National Forest. Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley has ruled Todd's death an accident.
A Department of Natural Resources spokesman says another hunter in a tree stand fired the shot.
Capt. Robert McCullough says the shooter called 911 and told authorities the bullet was fired from a .300-caliber hunting rifle.
The shooting is being investigated by the Natural Resources agency, with assistance from the Abbeville County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division.
