MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- A 46-year-old has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a man on a Wando street.
The Post and Courier reports a jury found Ron Santa McCray of Wando guilty Friday of murder. He killed 30-year-old Reginald Porcher in September 2009 using a 12-guage sawed-off shotgun.
Porcher was the brother of Robert Porcher III, a former all-pro NFL player for the Detroit Lions.
Prosecutors say five pellets hit Reginald Porcher in the back and shoulder through his truck's rear window as he tried to drive away. Prosecutors say McCray kicked and spit on Porcher as he tried to get up.
McCray testified he went to talk to Porcher about a former girlfriend's accusation. He says he shot in self-defense after Porcher reached for something in his truck.
