COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina probation agent has been arrested and charged with soliciting bribes in exchange for shortening an offender's time under state monitoring.
The State Law Enforcement Division says 49-year-old Vincent O'Neal Howard of Summerville was arrested Thursday.
SLED says Howard was working for the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services in Moncks Corner last month when he told one of the offenders in his care that he would take money in exchange for releasing that person from agency supervision.
As part of an undercover operation, the offender paid Howard on Thursday, and the agent was arrested.
It wasn't known if Howard had an attorney.
