SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A Spartanburg man who rescued a child and his grandfather from a burning apartment says he wasn't afraid until firefighters arrived and he realized what he had done.
The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reported that 47-year-old Lonnell Ellis had gone to the Frank Gooch Apartments to help his uncle.
When he saw smoke coming from another apartment, he went inside and took a young boy outside.
Ellis returned to the apartment, dropped to his knees and called for the man. They found each other in the smoky darkness, and Ellis guided Anderson from the apartment.
Anderson was in a hospital being treated for smoke inhalation.
