RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Heavy rain is creating problems for motorists for Interstate 40 in Johnston County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation said heavy rain draining from fields adjacent to the highway left water standing on the eastbound lanes Friday afternoon. The flooding occurred between mile markers 319 and 321.
NCDOT spokesman Jerry Higgins said drainage grates were covered and work crews were trying to clear them. Higgins said the N.C. Highway Patrol was helping motorists navigate through the area.
