RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The man accused in an attack on two North Carolina Democratic strategists more than a week ago is formally charged after being hospitalized for what police called self-inflicted injuries.
Jonathan Broyhill entered the Wake County magistrate's office in a wheelchair Tuesday morning and was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Jamie Hahn. The 31-year-old Broyhill is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury after he attacked Nation Hahn.
The couple was assaulted in their north Raleigh home.
Wake County District Court Judge Keith Gregory told Broyhill he could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole if convicted of murder. Broyhill also faces life without parole if convicted of attempting to murder Nation Hahn.
