SANTEE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a woman was shot to death in a van by men who were trying to rob a man inside the vehicle near Santee.
Investigators said the man drove 31-year-old Kathy Mack of Orangeburg out of danger and called police around 4 p.m. Thursday.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says the suspects were trying to rob the man after he cashed a check.
Deputies say 18-year-old Deshaun Fordham, 21-year-old Donte Stokes and 18-year-old Jerry McKnight have all been charged with murder, while 18-year-old Demetric Quattlebaum was charged as an accessory before the fact. It wasn't clear if any of the suspects had lawyers.
