BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- A police captain in Yemassee has been cleared of charges that he kept more than $10,000 from traffic stops.

The Beaufort Gazette reported (http://bit.ly/TLCOQU) the attorney general's office has dismissed the charges against Capt. Gregory Alexander.

Police Chief Jack Hagy says he does not know what happened to the money.

The attorney general's office this week dismissed the last charge against Alexander, breach of trust of less than $1,000. A Hampton County jury last week had found Alexander not guilty of misconduct in office and breach of trust of $10,000.

Alexander had been charged after an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division. Alexander had been suspended in May after being accused of taking the money.

The Hampton County sheriff had turned the case over to SLED.
