SALISBURY, N.C. -- New information was uncovered Wednesday in the search for missing Rowan County teenager Erica Parsons.

NBC Charlotte has learned Erica's adoptive mother, Casey Parsons, was reportedly speaking to people as if she was still living with the family as recently as spring of last year. This contradicts information she and Sandy told investigators previously, in which they said the last time she saw Erica was around Christmas 2011, when they left her with a relative to go live in Asheville.

Erica’s brother also told investigators that’s the last time he’s seen her.

Neighbors say they never noticed Erica around the area. They say they did see the youngest two Parsons kids, even though they weren’t allowed to get too close.

“They were always very protective. Even one of my kids, one of my older ones, was riding a bike down the road – little ones were playing and she told the kids to get away from the fence,” neighbor Wendy Leonard said.

Investigators say they’re still not yet releasing any new developments to protect the integrity of the investigation.
