Orpheus' Smokey Mary

Orpheus is a favorite on Lundi Gras since 1993, known for its founder, Harry Connick Jr., his many celebrity guests and the parade's beautiful, supersized floats which often carry out a musical theme. First among its signature floats is the Smokey Mary, which debuted in 1994. This is no ordinary steam engine - this six-unit, 120 feet-long float pays tribute to the train which used to run on the rail line which traveled from the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain. Like many other floats in Orpheus, the Smokey Mary is big and bold - in this case using lots of steam, sounds and even fiber optic lights to make a lasting impression.
